Dear Barbara,
I certainly share your excellent thoughts on this subject.
Now as a PhD student in Economics [I have BS in Comp. Engineering and MS in Statistics], I firstly realize that learner's bottom line often times is a key ingredient makes things "tick." Therefore, I think cash incentives/gift cards should be used very widely when it comes to attracting employees/customers to learn something new via something like your inovative "Serious Games." Secondly, there are a lot of people to whom competition could be more rewarding rewarding than a cash incentive, therefore, tiered rewarding system with a shining 1st place should be implemented in conjunction with a monetary incentive system. Thirdly, desire for recognition [drive to significance] is usualyy present in every employee, therefore, the awards should be distributed publically. In conclusion, I think every company has its own culture and they will have an intuitive view on which system can bring best results. Therefore, if those three things could be implemented in the "Serious Games," it could make the product even more successful than it already is.

Thank you very much!

Sincerely,
Ekaterina Vorotnikova

PS :) In all educating efforts we should always be weary of a situation where it is hard to understand something for the learner because his/her paycheck is dependent upon not understanding it. :) [joke]
